Session met and opened with prayer. Members present: Nathaniel P. Charlotte, Moderator. Elders: John Marquis, John Lyons and Peter Eckley.

Session met and opened with prayer. Members present: N. P. Charlotte, Moderator. Elders, Isaac Paxton and Peter Eckley.

Proceeded to take into consideration a charge laid in by William Hilliard against David Lyons, a member of the Church, for falsehood. Witnesses, John Kain, James Hilliard and Samuel Marquis. A citation is made out and put into the hand of the accused, who waived his right for stay of proceedings according to the discipline, Chapter 4th, section seventh and proceeded to trial. Witnesses qualified. It having been made to appear that said William Hilliard bought a certain saddle from the said David Lyons and John Kain having been qualified deposeth and saith that he heard David Lyons say that he (Hilliard) should have the saddle for $11.50 the same that he gave Samuel Marquis for it though Marquis price was $12.00. James Hilliard, after being qualified, deposeth and saith that he heard David Lyons say that the price in the shop of the saddle was $12.00 but he (Mr. Hilliard) should have it for $11.50.

Samuel Marquis, saddler, after being sworn deposeth and saith that William Hilliard asked him the price of the saddle and he told him that the price was $10.00.

The Session are of the opinion that the charge has been sustained and that the said David Lyons stand suspended from the privileges of the Church until he give satisfactory evidence of his repentence and proceedings to be announced from the Pulpit. Session closed with prayer. Peter Eckley, clerk.

Then was admitted on examination, Easton Daniel and his wife Elisabeth Daniel and on certificate, Daniel Glen and Rebecca Glen, his wife.

The ordinance of Baptism was administered to Samuel Alexander Glen, infant son of Daniel and Rebecca Glen. Session closed with prayer. Peter Eckley, clerk.

According to notice given the Congregation convened for the purpose of nominating a committee to confer with a committee from Mr. Zion Church for the purpose of uniting with that Church in supporting a preacher and Joseph A. Marquis and Peter Eckley were appointed said committee to meet on Sat. the 24th, inst. Peter Eckley, clerk.

In accordance with the above appointment the committee met and agreed to write to Rev. Mr. Hair or procure any other preacher that might be obtained. Peter Eckley, clerk.

At the insistance of John Lyons, Session proceeded to take into consideration the case of David Lyons, son of John Lyons ,who stood suspended from the privileges of the Church. After some consideration and nothing affected, Session adjourned to meet at the call of the Moderator. Closed with prayer. Peter Eckley, clerk.

According to adjournment, Session met July 5th, 1841 at the call of the Moderator. Meeting constituted with prayer. Members present, Rev. N. P. Charlot, Moderator. Elders: Isaac Paxton and Peter Eckley.

After some consultation and nothing affected nor any acknowledgement or confession, Session adjourned. Concluded with prayer. Peter Eckley, clerk.

Olive, Sept. 18, 1841.

Preaching by Rev. N. P. Charlot and in the evening went out to the house of W. Campbell and preached and Baptized the following children: Henry Washington, Joseph Caldwell and Martha Jane, children of Sarah Ann Campbell. Peter Eckley, clerk.

Session met to receive an acknowledgement from David W. Lyons a suspended member. Constituted with prayer. Members present, Isaac Paxton and Peter Eckley, Elders. Which acknowledgement is as follows.

I do hereby make the following acknowledgement. Although, however sincere and upright the witnesses may have been, I do not recollect of saying what they state. But if I have said as they state I am truly sorry for it and likewise for giving the Church or any member of it any trouble or dissatisfaction and furthermore, I do acquit the Session in their judgement and I think they have acted upright and judiciously according to evidence. I hope by the Grace of God to strive to do better in time to come.

A committee was appointed to inquire into the Christian conduct of James Robb, a member of this Church. Who made the following report. That they have conversed with Mr. Robb and he makes the following statement.

I do hereby acknowledge that I am sorry for my conduct in laying myself under the necessity of returning from McConnelsville on the Sabbath and further that I gave out papers of a worldly nature on that Holy Day rest and do hereby promise the Grace of God, strengthening me to strive in the future to do better.

A fame having arose against Michael Morrison, a member of this Church, Session thought it expedient to send a committee to talk with him and he, the said Mr. Morrison maketh the following acknowledgement, to wit.

I do hereby acknowledge that on the evening of the sixth of March last, in the town of Sharon being thrown into a passion and overcame by the same, I did and said things inconsistant with the Christian character and calculated to wound the cause of Christ and injure the feelings of my bretheren in the Church for which I am truly sorry and by the help of God do promise to strive to do better in time to come.

Olive, Jan. 30th, 1849.

Session met. Constituted with prayer. Members present: Rev. M. M. Brown, Moderator. Elders, Easton W. Daniels and Samuel Aikin.

Proceeded to take up the following charges. Common fame charges Joseph A. Marquis, jun. with immorality in unkind treatment of his wife, Mary Jane Marquis.

Also against Mary Jane Marquis, viz, common fame charges Mary Jane Marquis with immorality in refusing to live with Joseph A. Marquis, jun, her lawfully married husband.

A charge against Isaac Paxton was taken up, viz, common fame, charges Isaac Paxton with immorality in exerting his influence to prevent his daughter Mary Jane Marquis from living with her husband.

A charge was taken against Agnes Paxton, viz, common fame charges Agnes Paxton with immorality in exerting her influence to prevent her daughter Mary Jane Marquis from living with her husband.

Adjourned to meet Feb. 20th at one p.m.

Feb. 20th, 1849.

Session met and was constituted with prayer. members present, Rev. M. M. Brown, Moderator. Elders, Easton W. Daniels and Samuel Aikin.

According to previous arrangement, Rev. M. M. Brown acted as Moderator.

The charge against Joseph A. Marquis, jun., was taken up and Mr. Marquis admitted the charge against him and professed his sorrow therefor. His statement was that he admitted that in a passion he had used improper language for which he was sorry although he could by no means admit the correctness of many things said against him. It was decided that, although Mr. Marquis admits the charge, and professes his sorrow therefore, yet that for the honor of religion he should be suspended from the Communion for six months.

The charge against Mary Jane Marquis was taken up. Isaac Paxton, her father and Ruling Elder in this Church, appeared to answer in her behalf. He laid before the Session a written statement from Mary Jane Marquis in which she admits the fact of her refusing to live with her husband but justifies herself in various ways therein set forth. Her reasons were not deemed sufficient even admitting all her statements of facts to be correct it was decided that she should be suspended from the Communion of this Church until she gave satisfactory evidence of repentence.

Adjourned to meet to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock am. Adjourned with prayer.

Feb. 21, 1849.

Session met and was constituted with prayer. Members present: Rev. M. M. Brown, Moderator. Elders, Easton M. Daniels and Samuel Aikin.

The charge against Isaac Paxton was taken up. Mr. Paxton admitted the fact charged but denied its immorality and referred to the statement presented by his daughter on yesterday as containing all the reasons he wished to present in self-justification, whereupon it was decided that the charge was sustained.

Resolved: That he be rebuked before the Session and that he be suspended from the exercise of his office as Ruling Elder until the way be clear for his restoration.

The charge against Agnes Paxton was taken up. Mrs. Paxton admitted the fact charged but stated that she had good reasons for her conduct although she would not lay them before the Session further than had been already done. The charge against Mrs. Paxton was sustained. Resolved: that she be rebuked before the Session.

Thus far examined and approved by presbytery meeting in Cambridge, April 11th, 1849. William M. Robinson, Moderator.

The Session having heard a report unfavorable to the Christian character of Joseph Glen, inquired of him about the truth of the report. Mr. Glen made the following acknowledgement and profession.

I do hereby acknowledge that I was guilty of improper conduct for which I have been exceedingly sorry and I hope that I have obtained pardon of the Lord and I do hereby promise, the Grace of God assisting me, that I will hereafter endeavor to live conformably to the Gospel. Joseph Glen.

Olive, May the 11th, 1849.

The Session was convinced of Mr. Glens Guilt from his own confession and acknowledgement but being also convinced of the sincerety of his repentence, did not think it a duty to suspend him from the Communion of the Church as he had expressed a willingness to deny himself that privilege for the present if the honor and welfare of Christ's Kingdom appears to demand it.

The ordinance of Baptizm was administered to Nancy Marquis and to Robert Marquis on the same day who was recieved into the Church on Certificate.
